20 Monitoring Stations Measure Air Quality in Makkah, Madinah

Riyadh: The National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) said that monitoring air quality before and after the Hajj season 1445 AH is at the heart of its duties, adding that it is sharing all data regarding air quality with concerned agencies to take necessary action to protect public health and provide convenient Hajj experience to pilgrims.

NCEC Spokesperson Saad Al-Matrafi said that air-quality measurement stations operate around the clock and with indicators of the five main air components being measured every five minutes and immediately sent to the central monitoring station, which issues daily reports and sends them to the Hajj Committee.

He said that the immediate monitoring of environment, including air quality, is carried out on locations of pilgrims with 20 air-quality monitoring stations — 15 fixed and 5 mobile — in place in Makkah and Madinah.
