4.9-magnitude earthquake hits southern Iran

Provinces, IRNA – An earthquake measuring 4.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit an area near Iran’s Khamir Port in the southern Hormuzgan Province on Monday night.

According to Tehran University Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at 20: 25 local time, and at the depth of 14 km.

There are no reports of possible casualties and damage as of yet.

The epicenter of the earthquake has a 32-kilometer distance from Khamir Port, and is 104 kilometers away from Bandar Abbas, the capital city of Hormuzgan Province.

The same area was also jolted by two tremors measuring 5.8 and 5.7 magnitude on Saturday night.
