Mashad, IRNA – Sheikh Ahmad Jami mausoleum complex has been registered on the List of Tangible and Intangible Heritage of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), an Iranian official said.

Head of Khorasan Razavi Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department Javad Mousavi told IRNA on Sunday that Sheikh Ahmad Jami mausoleum complex, which was registered on Iran’s National Heritage List and added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO’S tentative list of world heritage sites, is now on ICESCO’s List of Tangible and Intangible Heritage.

Sheikh Ahmad Jami mausoleum complex is a collection of religious buildings, mosques, houses, and tombstones all around the central tombstone of Sheikh Ahmad Jami, Iranian Muslim scholar, who lived between 1048 and 1141 in Torbat-e Jam, Khorasan Razavi.

Mousavi went on to say that the ICESCO is a specialized entity affiliated to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) formerly Organisation of the Islamic Conference.

According to the official, the ICESCO is active in different fields of education, sciences, culture, and communications in Islamic countries in order to support and enhance relationships among the Muslim nations.

The headquarters of the organization is located in Rabat, capital of Morocco, Mousavi said, adding that the ICESCO has started preparing a list of significant cultural and historical works of the Islamic world with the aim of identifying and preserving heritage of the Muslim nations for a few years.

The ICESCO List of Tangible and Intangible Heritage is dedicated to monuments and heritage of the Islamic world, which is different from UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the Iranian official noted.
