The Iraqi Al-Asas Coalition called on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to form a specialized committee to investigate an incident in which one of its cadres was subjected to an assassination attempt in Diyala, and to uncover the perpetrators and refer them to the competent courts.
The representative of the coalition, Ali Al-Saadi, said in a press conference today, Wednesday, “Our most important active field cadre (Qahtan Mahmoud Kadhim) and his nephew, the child Karar Mohamed Mahmoud Kadhim, were subjected to an assassination attempt in Diyala Governorate with his family members yesterday, Tuesday, while returning to the house located in Al-Muqdadiya district, which led to him and his nephew being injured by a number of gunfire.”
He added: “They are now in the hospital receiving treatment and in a critical and dangerous health condition, hours after the announcement of our coalition that will run in the upcoming provincial council elections, the Iraqi Al-Asas coalition.”
He continued: “This action is clear political targeting by bankrupt and outlaws who do not believe in the democratic process and fair competition,” noting that “this region is safe and free of such incidents, and this targeting at this current time when the political blocs are preparing to run in the elections, is a dangerous and cannot be tolerated.”
