Al-Maliki: The ambassador must be a mirror that reflects the position of the ministry and the government

Baghdad – The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki, stressed: “The ambassador must be a mirror that reflects the position of the ministry and the government.”

Al-Maliki said in a speech at the 2023 Iraqi Ambassadors Forum, addressing the ambassadors: “You reflect the policy and will of the Iraqi government, even if the ambassador has a different point of view than the ministry.”

He added: “The ambassadors are well aware that they are responsible for representing Iraq and for diplomacy that conveys the vision of Iraq, a state, a government and a people, to the world,” noting: “The ambassador’s reading of the country in which he lives reaches directly to the government, which acts according to the visions it receives from the ambassadors.”

He pointed out that: “In the previous parliamentary session, the process of nominating ambassadors was carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but we do not hold it fully responsible because it was the parties and blocs that disagreed about the nomination of ambassadors and the parliamentary committee was the one that decided to stop the nomination process. We hope that the same thing will not be repeated, and we hope to work and speed up the process of maturing the file for selecting and nominating ambassadors so that their nomination is complete and mature and reflects the success of the selection, and not merely filling vacancies in those embassies.”

Regarding the Palestine issue, Nouri Al-Maliki, confirmed: “The popular, governmental and political position is unified and consistent towards the steadfast issue of Palestine and Gaza.”
