Al-Mandlawi receives the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and stresses keenness to “amend the Journalists’ Retirement Law”

Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, stressed the keenness to “amend the Journalists’ Retirement Law” as soon as possible to ensure the removal of injustice and obtaining of full rights for journalists.

A statement from Al-Mandalawi’s office stated that “Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, received in his guest house, today, Wednesday, the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, head of the Arab Journalists Union, Mu’ayyad Al-Lami.”

Al-Mandlawi said, according to the statement: “The media plays an important role and is a fundamental pillar in the democratic process, due to the power and influence that journalistic institutions have to expose and combat corruption, and the messages they provide to confront phenomena that are alien to the culture of society,” stressing: “The House of Representatives is very keen to expedite the legislation of laws that contribute to strengthening the status of journalists and obtaining their full rights, inclu
ding “amending Law 81 of 1973 related to the Journalists’ Retirement Fund.”

Al-Mandlawi directed the relevant parliamentary committees to coordinate the necessary with the Journalists’ Syndicate and relevant parties to hold workshops and expanded meetings to mature the possible visions and proposals that contribute to lifting the injustice against the segment of journalists.

The Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives called on the Journalists’ Syndicate and its affiliated institutions to “contribute to exposing the brutal crimes practiced by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, while it was agreed to launch and intensify media campaigns at the local and Arab levels to support and assist our brothers in Lebanon, in addition to closing the fictitious organizations that spread rumors and distorts facts.’
