Algeria’s negative vote to Zionist regime’s membership in AU valuable: Iran’s FM

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian called Algeria’s negative vote on the Zionist regime’s membership in the African Union (AU) admirable, adding that Algeria acted based on wisdom and logic.

Amirabdollahian held talks with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra on Thursday.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the process of bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest in the regional and international arenas.

Pointing to the good political relations between Iran and Algeria, Amirabdollahian expressed hope that relations between the two states would further develop in all fields.

Describing the recent meeting of Iran and Algeria’s chamber of commerce as a useful step, he added that holding the meeting would create a good opportunity to promote the level of trade relations between the two countries.

Referring to Algeria’s negative vote on the Zionist regime’s membership in the AU, Amirabdollahian praised the Algerian stance, saying that Algeria has acted according to wisdom and logic and that the move was valuable besides Algeria’s logical stance on the return of Syria to the Arab League.

He expressed hope that the upcoming Arab League summit will have important benefits for the Islamic Ummah.

Lamamra, for his part, wished a speedy recovery from the COVID-19 for his Iranian counterpart, hoping to hear good news about the complete elimination of the coronavirus and the successful end of the Iran nuclear negotiations soon.

Referring to the meeting of the chamber of commerce of the two countries, Lamamra assessed it as positive for developing trade relations and improving the volume of exchanges between the two states.

Inviting Amirabdollahian to visit the country, Algeria’s foreign minister stressed the importance of forming a political committee and a committee to pursue relations between Iran and Algeria.

Describing the process of political and parliamentary relations as positive and constructive, the two sides pointed to the recent developments in Libya, stressing that the problems in Libya can be solved with by Libyan groups without foreign interference.
