ASOSAI General Assembly Approves Saudi Arabia as Next Chair (2027-2030)


The General Assembly of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), at its sixteenth session, approved the decision of the Governing Board that Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), was unanimously elected as chair of the organization for the period 2027-2030. Additionally, the General Assembly approved that Saudi Arabia would host the 17th General Assembly of the organization and the Governing Board meetings during the same period, according to a news release by ASOSAI.

On this occasion, President of the General Court of Audit Dr. Hussam Alangari extended his congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on Saudi Arabia’s election as chair of ASOSAI. This election reflects the Kingdom’s leading position in international and regional audit institutions, as well as GCA’s continued leadership in the field of supreme audit i
nstitutions worldwide.

In his speech at the General Assembly, Dr. Alangari emphasized the significance of Saudi Arabia’s election as chair of ASOSAI, highlighting the organization’s development and progress in various fields. He also acknowledged the support provided by the government leadership, which has led to significant advancements in public sector audits in Saudi Arabia, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

Dr. Alangari also stressed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring that the 17th General Assembly serves as a platform for enhanced cooperation and knowledge exchange among Asian supreme audit institutions. He underscored the importance of developing the topics for the General Assembly, the accompanying technical symposium, and the Governing Board discussions to contribute to greater accountability, transparency, and good governance in Asian countries.

The General Assembly, held today in New Delhi, India, was opened by President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu. The meeting addressed var
ious topics, including the approval of ASOSAI’s financial statements for 2021-2023, the organization’s budget for 2025-2027, and the Audit Committee’s report. Other key topics included the General Secretariat’s report on ASOSAI’s activities since the previous General Assembly, the Strategic Plan, Capacity Development, the 13th Research Project, cooperation with other regional organizations, and the establishment of new working groups.

The General Assembly was preceded by the 60th meeting of the Governing Board of ASOSAI. During the meeting, the reports of the Governing Board chair and the General Secretariat on the Board’s activities since the last meeting, as well as reports from various ASOSAI working groups and subcommittees, were reviewed and discussed.

ASOSAI, established in 1978, is a regional organization comprising 48 supreme audit and accounting institutions in Asian countries. It is affiliated with the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), the global professional refe
rence for supreme audit and accounting institutions.
