Ambassador Sameh Aboul-Enein, Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, chaired the Egyptian delegation at the US-Egypt Joint Economic Committee meetings, held in Washington, DC, on September 4-5, 2024, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced.
The meetings were attended by Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States Motaz Zahran.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries and expanding areas of bilateral trade and investment, within the framework of the long-standing strategic relations between the two countries.
The committee also explored opportunities to enhance partnerships in key sectors such as renewable energy, technology, infrastructure, and agriculture, in line with the new Egyptian government’s economic program.
In his address, Ambassador Aboul-Enein highlighted the importance of these meetings in supporting sustainable economic cooperation between the two sides, noting that Egypt considers the US a key partner in its economic development efforts.

e emphasized Egypt’s eagerness to boost trade and investment exchanges with the US to foster economic growth and create new job opportunities for youth.
He added that this joint committee is an important platform for advancing economic and trade relations, benefiting both nations.
On the sidelines of the committee meetings, the Assistant Foreign Minister held several meetings with senior US officials, including the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and the US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources.
These discussions focused on strategic issues of mutual interest, particularly on the importance of enhancing coordination in regional affairs to ensure stability in the Middle East and boost cooperation in security and development.
Additionally, Ambassador Aboul-Enein held a series of meetings with officials from prominent US institutions, including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the U.S.
Trade and Development Agency (USTDA).
These talks aimed to explore cooperation frameworks in areas such as clean energy, infrastructure, and technology, alongside supporting initiatives in digital transformation and empowering youth and women in Egypt.
Beyond the official meetings, Ambassador Aboul-Enein met with academics and researchers at the Wilson Center and the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) to highlight Egypt’s role in regional and international issues, including the stabilization of the Middle East and Africa, and the role of diplomacy in conflict resolution and sustainable development.
There was an exchange of views on enhancing collaboration between Egypt and these research institutions to support regional security and development.
