Ayatollah Raisi: Proud prisoners of war are models of faith and steadfastness and a source of pride for the system and nation of Iran

In a message on the anniversary of the return of POWs to the homeland, President Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi wrote, “Proud prisoners of war are models of faith and steadfastness and a source of pride for the system and nation of Iran”.

Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi’s message reads:

In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

August 17 is the anniversary of the return of the glorious and proud prisoners of war to the Islamic homeland. Undoubtedly, the return of the honourable POWs and their liberation from the camps of the Ba’athist regime in Iraq was one of the most important and pleasant events of the year 1990.

The memorable event of the return of the proud freedmen was in fact another manifestation of the victory of the honourable nation of Iran during the eight years of Holy Defence.

The proud POWs during their captivity in the camps of the oppressive Iraqi regime displayed many manifestations of epicism and resistance, to the point that some of these loved ones were martyred under the torture and difficult conditions of that time.

The wasr veterans are undoubtedly among the living martyrs and a symbol of love for the homeland, and the moments of their proud return, which were accompanied by tears and kisses on the holy soil of this land, will never be erased for the sake of our grateful people.

Proud prisoners of war are models of faith and steadfastness and a source of pride for the system and nation of Iran.

I commemorate this great day and I ask God Almighty more honour, dignity and health for you. God willing, we will be able to take appropriate measures in serving these loved ones.
