Tehran, IRNA – Director of Soltaniyeh Dome World Heritage Site Hossein Eidani said on Tuesday that on the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites (April 18), also known as World Heritage Day, a cleaning project was carried out in Soltaniyeh Dome located in the city of Soltaniyeh, the northwestern province of Zanjan.
Eidani said that the historical properties and monuments are the identity of a region, chtn.ir reported.
He urged local people to cooperate with cultural heritage officials in preserving ancient sites, underlining, “We will do our best to train the general public in this regard.”
The official expressed hope that the implementation of the cleaning project would help raise the awareness of people about the significance of the cultural, historical, and natural heritage of the country as national assets. Soltaniyeh Dome, dating back to the Ilkhanid Era (1256-1353 CE), is one of the architectural masterpieces of Iran.
The monument, one of the largest brick domes in the world, was built by Sultan Mohammad Khodabandeh from 1302 to 1312.
The dome, along with other ancient structures of the historical city of Soltaniyeh, is a significant manifestation of the culture, art, and architecture of the Ilkhanid Era.
It is one of the most outstanding monuments in Iran in terms of size, architecture, and decorations.
Soltaniyeh Dome was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
The International Day for Monuments and Sites is held on April 18 each year around the world to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage, the vulnerability of sites and monuments, and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.
