Commerce Minister Meets with UNCTAD Secretary-General

Riyadh, The Minister of Commerce and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Competitiveness Center, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi, received the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Rebeca Grynspan, today in the presence of the Vice Minister of Commerce and CEO of the center, Dr. Iman bint Habas Al-Mutairi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways of cooperation and the latest developments related to trade in services and electronic commerce.

After the meeting, the Minister of Commerce, along with the Vice Minister of Commerce, the Assistant President of the Bureau of Experts at the Cabinet, Bader Al-Haddab, and representatives from over 30 government agencies’ legal departments, convened the sixth meeting of the Legal Committee. This committee is affiliated with the Laws and Regulations Support Unit and similar units linked to the National Competitiveness Center.

This gathering formed part of the ongoing efforts to enhance Saudi Arabia’s business environment, making it more appealing to investors. As part of these efforts, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) visited the Saudi Business Center and the Enterprise Support Center. During the visit, they collaborated with relevant government agencies to review policies and procedures, ensuring they aligned with the best international practices. The goal is to streamline and facilitate the establishment and operation of economic enterprises.

The visit encompassed an overview of the services offered by the Saudi Business Center, which operates through its 17 branches located across 14 Saudi cities. The Business platform, aimed at supporting the business sector in the Kingdom, was also presented. Furthermore, the programs of the SMEs Support Center were examined, with a particular emphasis on its efforts to connect small and medium enterprises with larger ones within the same economic region. The center’s primary responsibilities were highlighted, including providing consulting, training, and guidance to help SMEs thrive and prosper.
