Death toll of Hawaii wildfire climbs to 93

The death toll from the Maui wildfires jumped to at least 93, making it the deadliest US wildfire in a century, announced the US National Fire Protection Association.

In a statement to reporters, Maui County Fire Chief Brad Ventura said that firefighters have made some progress in their battles against the three largest wildfires.

“The deadly fire in hard-hit Lahaina has not grown, but is still not fully under control,” Ventura unveiled.

Meanwhile Hawaii Gov. Josh Green pointed out that around 2,200 structures, approximately 86 percent of them residential, were destroyed or damaged by the fire in western Maui. The governor estimated that the losses approach USD 6 billion.
