Dome of Soltaniyeh preparing to receive tourists in Nowruz

Zanjan, IRNA – All preparations are being made to host tourists in Dome of Soltaniyeh in Zanjan Province during Nowruz (New Year) holidays, an Iranian official said.

Head of Soltanieh World Heritage Site Hossein Eidani told reporters on Monday that people in charge of preparing the compound and historical monument have started their job to hold glorious programs during the Nowruz vacations.

Cleaning the environment, planting trees, preparing “Haft-seen” (an arrangement of seven symbolic items whose names start with the letter “?” pronounced /s/ to commemorate Nowruz), and organizing appropriate programs for the holidays are among measures being taken to prepare the Dome of Soltaniyeh for tourism, Eidani said.

According to the official, despite the existence of handicrafts exhibitions near Soltaniyeh Complex, an especial market for showcasing handicrafts in the vicinity of the Dome will be established during Nowruz.

The museum and main building of the Dome of Soltaniyeh will host tourists from 9 am to 7 pm, he said, adding that some 15 staff members will provide tourists with touristic services.

Eidani went on to say that following two years of restrictions due to coronavirus pandemic, Iran’s National Headquarters of Coronavirus Disease Management has decided to ease limitations and allow Nowruz travels on condition of getting two shots of vaccines as well as possessing negative PCR test results.

The Dome of Soltaniyeh in Soltaniyeh City, Zanjan Province, is a complex of ruins centering on the Mausoleum of the Mongol ruler Il-khan Oljeitu, also known as Muhammad Khodabandeh.

The main building was erected between 1302 and 1312 AD, which is the oldest double-shell dome in Iran and also one of the largest brick domes in the world.

The Global Heritage site of Dome of Soltaniyeh has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.
