Egypt Urges Foreign Residents to Regularize Their Status by September 30

The Egyptian government urged on Sunday 18/8/2024 all foreign residents to regularize their residency status by renewing their permits and obtaining the new smart residency card.

This initiative is designed to ensure that foreign residents continue to enjoy full access to the services provided by the country’s administrative system.

The government has launched the “Hurry to Regularize Your Status in Egypt” campaign, encouraging foreign residents, especially those exempt from paying residency fees, to visit the General Directorate of Passports, Immigration, and Nationality to update their information and secure their residency status.

Foreign residents who are exempt from residency fees are specifically called upon to register their details and obtain an exemption card from the General Directorate. This directive follows a decision by the Prime Minister, which set a deadline of June 30, 2024, for obtaining the exemption card. After this date, services to those without the card were suspended.

A final grace
period has been granted, ending on September 30, 2024. During this time, services for exempt foreign residents who have not obtained their exemption cards will remain suspended. After the deadline, legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply, and they will be considered in violation of Egypt’s residency regulations.

The government emphasizes the importance of foreign residents updating their status to avoid any disruption in accessing services and to ensure compliance with Egyptian law. This campaign reflects Egypt’s commitment to managing its diverse population of foreign residents effectively while upholding the integrity of its legal and administrative systems.
