Egypt Welcomes Announcing New UN Envoy on Water Position

Egypt welcomed the latest decision by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres of creating the position of a special envoy on water.

Egypt also welcomed the appointment of Indonesia Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi as the Special Envoy on Water.

Egypt added in an official statement that it led with Germany a wide action for organizing the United Nations Water Conference in 2023. In addition, it succeeded to have the agreement of 151 for establishing the new position. This position will support the efforts of the UN state members, especially those who have water scarcity , in addition to enhancing their efforts to achieve the 6th SDG.

The latest move of the UN is a real appreciation and a piece of evidence of Egypt’s efforts in developing the joint work with different parties to face today’s challenges.

Finally, Egypt is looking forward to cooperate with the new special envoy on water to achieve the goals of 2030 Vision related to facing water scarcity in the light of the great efforts of t
he Egyptian government to wisely manage its water resources and enhancing international cooperation based on the manners and rules of the international law.
