Erdogan: The great support we had in the May 14 elections is a guarantee for the second round

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the great popular support he won in the first round of the presidential elections on May 14 is a guarantee for the second round on the 28th of this month.

In a speech via telephone at the regional consultative meeting to evaluate the performance of local administrations that took place today in Kayseri, central Turkey, Erdogan thanked all the cadres of the “Justice and Development Party” for the great efforts they made ahead of the recent presidential and parliamentary elections.

He stressed the importance of the “Alliance of the Puplic” led by the Justice and Development Party obtaining a majority in the Turkish Parliament.

He added, “We achieved a majority in Parliament, and now it is time to work in order to win the second round of the Presidential elections on May 28,” noting that the opposition’s attempts to bridge the difference will not work.

On Sunday, Turkey witnessed Presidential and Parliamentary elections, and the candidate of the ” Public Alliance”, President Erdogan, the candidate of the “Nation Alliance” leader of the Republican People’s Party Kamal Kilicdaroglu, and the candidate of the “Ata Alliance” (ancestors) Sinan Ogan competed in the presidential elections.

Erdogan won 49.51 percent of the vote, while Kilicdaroglu won 44.92 percent, Sinan Ogan 5.17 percent and Muharram Ince (withdrew) 0.44 percent.

On Monday, Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Commission officially announced that the second round of the presidential elections would take place on May 28, as no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote. / End
