The European Union (EU) Saturday expressed condolences to India after a train crash left at least 261 people dead and hundreds injured in India’s eastern Odisha state Friday night.

“Terrible news from India. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the victims of the Odisha train accident and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said in a message on her twitter account.

“The people of India are in our thoughts in this time of sorrow. Europe mourns with you,” she added.
