FM Discusses Bilateral Relations And Recent Developments In The Region With His Egyptian And Lebanese Counterparts

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdel Aati, and his Lebanese counterpart, Abdullah Bou Habib, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “Minister Fuad Hussein and Abdel Aati discussed the bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt, focusing on the recent developments in the region and the threat they pose to international peace and security.”

The two ministers also stressed the importance of Arab and international action to stop the recent attacks on Lebanon, warning of the danger of escalation and its transformation into an open conflict in the region.

The next steps for the upcoming tripartite meeting between Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan to coordinate positions and enhance joint cooperation were also discussed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also reviewed with his Lebanese counterpart the latest security developments in Lebanon, and stressed Iraq’s keenness to support Lebanon’s sovereignty and preserve its security, stressing Iraq’s readiness to provide assistance to those affected by the recent attacks.

They stressed the need for Arab and international action to support Lebanon and stop the escalation in the region, in light of the seriousness of the threats posed by the recent attacks on peace and security in the region in general.

For his part, the Lebanese Minister thanked Iraq for its supportive positions towards the government and people of Lebanon in terms of political support and medical and humanitarian aid provided by Iraq.
