FM: Iran not to accept any commitment beyond JCPOA

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that Iran will not accept any commitment beyond the July 2015 nuclear deal, aka Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Amirabdollahian made the remarks during his telephone conversation with Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.

On the phone, Amirabdollahian said that the Iranian negotiating team with initiative and due authority is present in the Vienna talks and makes efforts seriously to reach a good agreement.

Iran and 4+1 resumed talks on November 29 in Vienna, Austria, to work on the text and make effort to settle disagreements.

In his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister referred to the Western side’s lack of initiative that has made slowness in the process of talks.

He went on to say that Iran has presented two texts about sanctions and nuclear issues, and the texts are applicable to the JCPOA.

Iran’s demands are not beyond the deal and the country will not accept any commitment far away from the nuclear agreement, he noted.

Iran has presented good proposals that can be a base for a sustainable agreement, the foreign minister stressed.

Full removal of the sanctions is necessary for removing concerns claimed by the Western sides, he underlined.

When the International Atomic Energy Agency chief condemned sabotage in Karaj site near Tehran, Iran through its goodwill announced that it will let replacing the damaged cameras at the site.

Elsewhere, Amirabdollahian said the Western sides should know that the language of threat will have a reverse outcome when dealing with Iran.

Also about the upcoming visit of the UN chief to Lebanon, Amirabdollahian said Iran always supports the national unity and territorial integrity of that country.

He further said Iran supports efforts to help Lebanon.

Then, he called on the global community to face the aggression of the Zionist regime of Israel against Lebanon.

For his part, the UN chief talked of the Vienna talks and described them as important.

Guterres said JCPOA is an important document whose structure works for international peace and stability.

As he noted, the UN stance on the deal has always been clear.

Guterres also appreciated Iran’s move to cooperate with the IAEA and accept the replacement of cameras at the Karaj site.

The UN chief described such a move as an indication of Tehran’s good cooperation with the IAEA and said it will have a positive impact on the confidence-building procedure during the talks.

At his remarks, the UN chief said the international body will make use of all its tools to see good results for the Vienna talks.

About his visit to Lebanon, Guterres said it is aimed at establishing unity among the Lebanese people.

He further said he believes that problems in Lebanon will be solved at the hands of the Lebanese people.
