FM: Iran ready to host Norwegian delegation to follow process of developing ties

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a meeting with his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt on Sunday stressed Iran’s readiness to host the Norwegian delegation to coordinate and pursue the development of relations.

Amirabdollahian met and held talks with his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt on the sidelines of the 58th Munich Security Conference on Sunday.

The two sides discussed and exchanged views on the bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues plus nuclear talks in Vienna.

While expressing his happiness over the recovery of his Norwegian counterpart from COVID-19, Amirabdollahian described the 115-year diplomatic relations between Tehran and Oslo as the perfect basis for further and comprehensive development of ties between the two states.

Iranian top diplomat expressed Iran’s readiness to host the Norwegian delegation at the level of the country’s deputy foreign ministers to coordinate and pursue the development of relations.

Pointing to the necessity of pursuing trade and economic relations between Iran and Norway, Amirabdollahian emphasized that they can expand cooperation in several fields, especially in the oil and gas industry, agriculture, renewable energy, as well as fisheries.

He highlighted that, fortunately, not only essential documents and good agreements have been signed between the two states in the past, but also there is a proper basis for expanding cooperation, which needs serious follow-up and implementation of these agreements.

Pointing to Iran’s strategic geographical location, Amirabdollahian described the south-north transit routes as a capacity to facilitate the access by the European states, including Norway, to the Central Asian region and the Caucasus.

Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt, for her part, stressed the need to continue political consultations between Tehran and Oslo to pursue the development of relations.

She welcomed his Iranian counterpart’s invitation to travel to Tehran.

The two sides also discussed the latest situation in Afghanistan and Yemen.
