FM: Iran supports democratic process in Iraq

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein voiced the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for the democratic process in Iraq, and welcomed the decision of the Iraqi parliament, government and people to expel the US troops from their country.

While congratulating the successful holding of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, Amirabdollahian emphasized the support of the Islamic Republic for the democratic process in Iraq.

Referring to Tehran’s determination to fully expand contacts and interactions at the governmental, private and public levels, Amirabdollahian announced Iran’s readiness to cancel visas for the travel of citizens of the two countries.

During the meeting, while thanking all the support and sympathetic positions of Tehran, Fuad Hussein announced Iraq’s readiness to expand bilateral relations especially in trade and economic issues.

Referring to the joint projects between the two countries, Iraqi’s foreign minister said that today is a good opportunity for relations to witness a leap in various dimensions.

Amirabdollahian hosted the Iraqi foreign minister and accompanying delegation, including Qasim al-Araji, the Iraqi government’s national security adviser.

The two sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest at the regional and international levels.
