Gaza Truce Must Transform into Permanent Resolution: Iran’s Diplomat Stresses at UN

New York: The ceasefire agreement in Gaza must evolve into a permanent and sustainable solution, articulated Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeed Iravani, during the United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East and the Palestinian Question.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Iravani emphasized the need for comprehensive actions to ensure the ceasefire’s transformation into a lasting peace. He highlighted the necessity for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, the unobstructed provision of humanitarian aid, and the formulation of a thorough reconstruction plan for Gaza. Iravani argued that Israel’s reluctance to fully retreat and its control over Gaza’s security is a significant barrier to achieving stability.

Iravani’s statement addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, criticizing the international community and the Security Council for their inaction and double standards. He condemned the Israeli actions as collective punishment, resulting in widespread suffering for the over two million residents of Gaza, who face shortages of essential resources.

Furthermore, Iravani called for the international community to prioritize the protection and funding of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He urged immediate action to address increasing violence in the West Bank, which he described as a threat to peace and security.

Highlighting the severe consequences of Israeli actions in Gaza, Iravani labeled them as crimes against humanity and genocide, demanding accountability and justice. He stressed the importance of the Security Council maintaining objectivity and not falling victim to Israeli propaganda.

Iravani also urged Israel to adhere to the ceasefire with Lebanon and to cease violations of Lebanese sovereignty, calling for the Security Council to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement. He criticized Israel’s occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights, citing violations of international agreements and resolutions.

In conclusion, Iravani reaffirmed Iran’s support for Palestinian resistance movements, deeming them a legitimate response to prolonged Israeli occupation and aggression, and underscored Iran’s commitment to Palestinian rights under international law.
