Gen. Soleimani created deterrent power for Resistance movement, says Iran’s envoy in Iraq

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi has said that Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani played a leading role in promoting capacities and capabilities of Islamic resistance movement.

After General Soleimani’s efforts, regional nations and Resistance movement could defend themselves and create deterrent power against threats, Masjedi told IRNA in an interview.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force commander Lieutenant General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, the acting commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) – known as the Hashd al-Shaabi – were assassinated in Baghdad by US attack on January 3, 2020.

As the ambassador noted, General Soleimani endeavored to annihilate terrorism in the region during his life.

In November 2017, General Soleimani, in a letter to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, announced the termination of the corrupt tree of Daesh (ISIS) and congratulated the glorious victory to the Islamic World.

Masjedi went on to say that General Soleimani was successful in making regional nations and Islamic resistance movement in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and other areas increase their capabilities and defend themselves.

General Soleimani showed that path to success is the very path to Resistance, the ambassador added.

After assassinating General Soleimani, the US crime was recorded in history, he said, adding that US administration is a terrorist because it assassinated the one who fought against terrorism during all his lifetime.

About ceremony on commemorating General Soleimani and al-Mohandes in Iraq, the ambassador said a ten-day glorious ceremony will be held in different Iraqi cities.
