Gulf Municipal Work Conference to Tackle Improving Quality of Municipal Services, Promoting Urban Development in Gulf Cities

The 12th session of the Gulf Municipal Work Conference, to be hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia here between October 6 and 8 under the theme “Sustainable Municipal Work: Aspirations and Challenges”, is slated to discuss six strategic pillars related to Gulf municipal work issues and current challenges in the sector.

The event seeks to enhance cooperation and joint efforts, facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, improve the quality of municipal services, and how to achieve sustainable urban development in the region.

One pillar focuses on sustainable urban planning and design as a fundamental basis for the sustainability of municipal work. A second addresses sustainable municipal economy.

Regarding the third, which pertains to management and operation for more sustainable cities, the conference will review the latest methods in waste management and recycling.

The fourth pillar concerns mechanisms to build partnerships in municipal work, wh
ile the fifth deals with the challenges of climate change in GCC cities. Finally, regarding the sixth pillar, the meeting will discuss the role of municipal staff in achieving sustainable municipal work.

The conference is expected to draw wide participation, from various government agencies concerned with municipal work and municipalities in GCC countries, city development authorities, universities, research centers, and institutions concerned with municipal work. It is also expected to be attended by government officials, private sector representatives, and experts and specialists in municipal services from the GCC countries.
