Hot and Humid Weather is Necessary for Substantial Harvest of Qatif Almonds

The Arabian Gulf coast farms of the Eastern Region are optimal for cultivating almond trees, which require hot and humid weather to yield substantial harvest.

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture branch in the Eastern Region has initiated the Qatif almond event in Saihat, designed to educate citizens and residents on the cultivation and care of the Qatif almonds.

Almond farmers in Qatif know that almond trees require constant care, including fertilizing the soil, vaccinating the trees, and protecting them from insects with pesticides and fly traps, in order to produce almond fruits of the appropriate size, color, and smell.

Qatif farms are renowned for their production of “habban”, which are also referred to as “Qatif almonds” or “Alexandrani” which are distinguished by their red and yellow colors, according to farmers.

According to almond dealers in Qatif, the cost of a kilogram of almonds varies between SAR30 and SAR50, depending on the size, color, location of cultivation, and irriga
tion method.
