TEHRAN: Iran’s Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has announced that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi is set to hold talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his upcoming visit to Tehran. The visit, scheduled to commence on Wednesday night, will span two days and is aimed at furthering the ongoing interactions between Iran and the IAEA, following the joint statement made on March 4, 2023.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Grossi’s itinerary will include meetings with the Iranian president, the Iranian minister of foreign affairs, and the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran remains committed to cooperating with the IAEA within the framework of its safeguard obligations, despite attempts by certain politically motivated countries to disrupt relations between Iran and the Agency.
Grossi’s arrival in Tehran comes at the invitation of Iran and is expected to f
eature discussions with senior Iranian officials on the country’s nuclear energy program. On Thursday, a series of high-level meetings will take place, focusing on technical discussions related to the joint statement agreed with Iran in March 2023.
These meetings are designed to build on Grossi’s earlier discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, which occurred on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September. In a statement, the IAEA highlighted the importance of the visit, quoting Grossi as saying, ‘It is essential that we make substantive progress in the implementation of the joint statement agreed with Iran in March 2023. My visit to Tehran will be very important in that regard.’
