Tehran, IRNA – The recent consensus between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Islamic Republic of Iran following two years of disagreement indicates that the West is determined to pave the way for the reopening of diplomatic path and resume meaningful nuclear negotiations.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, heading a diplomatic delegation, arrived in Tehran on Saturday night to hold talks with the chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami. The two sides discussed around two hours and agreed upon a “constructive agreement.”
The IAEA and Iran reached a consensus on monitoring cameras, technical issues, and the need for resuming nuclear talks. Eslami addressed reporters after the meeting, saying that Iran accepted to allow the IAEA inspectors to visit Iran in order to change memory cards of monitoring cameras and carry out technical procedures needed for the cameras, and that the inspectors must seal the memory cards here in Iran and install new memory cards.
At the end of the meeting between Grossi and Eslami, they issued a statement, emphasizing that the both sides will continue cooperation and respect mutual trust in a constructive atmosphere, hailing the spirit of cooperation and mutual trust.
Now that the new Iranian administration and the IAEA have reached a consensus on the monitoring cameras as the “black box” of Iran’s nuclear facilities, hopes for resumption of nuclear talks and the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal known also the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) mounted. Then, the European Union and Russia welcomed the good gesture from the IAEA and Iran.
Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna Mikail Ulyanov welcomes the results of Grossi’s trip to Tehran, writing on his Twitter account, “Pleased to note that on these points Russia and #EU are like-minded. We welcome the results of Mr. Grossi’s visit to #Tehran. We call for an earliest resumption of #ViennaTalks on restoration of #JCPOA. Hope to see Mr. Mora and other colleagues at the table of negotiations soon.”
In a tweet on Sunday, EU’s Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Enrique Mora twitted, “This is a positive step towards ensuring continuity of knowledge on Iran’s nuclear program. Give space for diplomacy. I appreciate the efforts. EU’s aim remains full #JCPOA implementation by all. For that, it’s crucial we resume #Vienna Talks as soon as possible.”
It is worth mentioning that President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration has reiterated in different occasions that Tehran is keen on returning to the nuclear talks, but they will take part in negotiations with parties, who are determined to revive the JCPOA and refuse resorting to threats and sanctions.
The Iranian government has shown in the last three months that the negotiating team would not pursue a hasty and exited foreign policy.
The other important point is that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennettt visited the United States to push the American authorities to stop reaching any deal with Iran on the revival of the nuclear agreement. The Zionist officials’ attempt to disseminate propaganda on Iran’s nuclear activities indicates that they are concerned about the resumption of commitments under the JCPOA.
