Immigration Ministry: Closing of the “Qorto” camp for displaced people in Sulaymaniyah

Baghdad- The Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced, today, Thursday, the closure of the “Qorto” camp in Sulaymaniyah, as the first camp for displaced people to be closed in the Kurdistan region since 2014.

The Ministry stated in a statement, “As part of the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani regarding following up the situation of the displaced people, the Minister of Immigration and Displacement, Ivan Faiq Jabru, announced the closure of the Qorto camp in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, as the first camp to be closed in the Kurdistan region since the 2014 displacement.”

The statement added, “Jabro extended its thanks to the local government in Sulaymaniyah Governorate for its great cooperation in implementing the federal government’s plan to facilitate the return of the displaced to their homes and close the camps, after the distinguished efforts made by the government in the areas of return to provide livelihood for returning families and include them in income-generating projects.”

The Minister stressed, according to the statement, that “the real causes of internal displacement have ended thanks to the stability achieved in the areas of return,” stressing “the necessity of ending the displacement file completely as soon as possible by ensuring the return of all displaced persons who are living in difficult conditions in displacement camps with the advent of winter.”
