Int’l athletics contests kick off in northeast Iran

Mashhad, IRNA – The 2nd International Athletics Imam Reza Cup Tournament (May 29-30) began in northeastern Iran on Sunday with participation of athletes from nine countries.

Today is preliminary while the main part of the competitions will start tomorrow (May 30), the head of athletics office of Razavi Khorasan Province, northeast of Iran, told IRNA.

Reza Bayani said 150 athletes have participated in the event.

The participants are from Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Turkey, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Oman, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

The international athletics competitions underway at Imam Reza sports complex are in honor of Ali Baghbanbashi, the former Iranian long-distance runner who died in October, 2021.

The chairman of Asian Athletics Association, officials at Athletics Federation of Iran, and senior national sports officials are present in the international competitions.
