Iran; anchor of security, stability in region

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu has stressed on Iran’s undeniable role in preserving security and stability in the West Asia region.

Shoygu, chairing the 9th Moscow Conference on International Security on Wednesday and Thursday, underlined that without Tehran’s collaboration, the security issue in Afghanistan and the whole region cannot be solved.

The Russian minister pointed to the fact that after 20 years of military presence of the United States and NATO forces in Afghanistan, the country is still engaged in insecurity and instability; so, regional states such as Iran and member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are key players, who can help in restoring security and stability in the region and especially in Afghanistan.

During the two day conference, Russian and Iranian officials also underlined the need for expansion of cooperation in order to preserve regional security and stability. The conference also proved that the Islamic Republic, as the anchor of security and stability, plays key role in the West Asia region.

Iran ready to help protect sustainable security

The Iranian delegation participating in the conference emphasized that the Islamic Republic has played key role in confronting terrorism and insecurity in the region, which have their roots in plots hatched by the US and the Zionist regime.

The Iranian delegation supported localizing security, which should be based on pull-out of foreign forces from the region.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Mehdi Rabbani accompanied by Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali participated in the conference, noting that security can be achieved only by regional states; therefore, the Islamic Republic calls for the best relations with other nations in particular the neighboring countries.

Rabbani also stated that Tehran attaches importance to relationship with Moscow – especially when it comes to resolving regional crises.

Today, Iran as one of the regional powers, can play an effective role in preserving security and stability in the region, which requires the withdrawal of the United States and the Zionist regime from the region, the Iranian brigadier general argued.

Referring to change of views to the topic of security in the world, he stipulated that the weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) are not as horrible in the eyes of the world public as they used to be, because issues such as the outbreak of coronavirus and social media are more important and effective because of their spread throughout the globe, which can be potentially parts of security threats in the future.

Thus, Iran can play an effective role in international developments especially when it comes to preserving public security instead of personal interests, Rabbani noted.
