Iran, Azerbaijan to sign MoU on transit of passengers

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, has announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the transit of the Azerbaijani people through Iranian soil.

Ghasemi made the remark before departing for Azerbaijan where he is due to attend the 15th Joint Economic Committee meeting on Thursday and Friday.

He said the MoU will be signed during his trip to Baku, and explained that the document allows the Azerbaijani people to use Iranian soil for traveling to Nakhichevan.

The Iranian minister also said, during his trip, he will discuss several projects that the Azerbaijani side has agreed to grant to Iran.

Other topics to be discussed, according to the Iranian official, will cover energy, agriculture and industry.

According to the minister, Iran’s giant auto-maker Iran Khodro, already active in Azerbaijan, will expand its activity there.

Ghasemi said, during his visit to Azerbaijan, MoUs will also be signed in other fields, but did not specify.
