Tehran: Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Abdolnaser Hemmati, has announced that the nation is fully prepared to navigate any potential challenges that may arise in the future. Hemmati stated that Iran has developed a range of strategies to confront and manage upcoming challenges effectively.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hemmati shared these insights during an interview with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Sharq News Network on Sunday. He discussed the impact of illegal sanctions and the maximum pressure campaign implemented during the tenure of former U.S. President Donald Trump. Hemmati noted that Iran had adopted various methods to counteract these measures imposed by Washington.
Hemmati highlighted the outcomes of Iran’s efforts, which include positive economic growth and increased cooperation with countries in the region and globally. He reported that in the current Iranian calendar year, set to conclude on March 20, there has been an 18-percent rise in non-oil trade, with oil exports al
so showing a favorable trend. Hemmati asserted that Iran has surpassed the primary phase of external pressure and is committed to making further progress.
Reflecting on past challenges, Hemmati discussed the sharp decline in oil exports experienced between 2018 and 2020, during Trump’s presidency, compounded by the Covid-19 pandemic. He acknowledged that these pressures had a significant impact on the lives of Iranian citizens. Nonetheless, he expressed optimism, stating that Iran developed effective plans to mitigate the sanctions’ effects and is ready for any scenario.
Hemmati also emphasized the resilience of emerging economies under pressure and shocks, noting that many countries are seeking cooperation and coordination against unilateral U.S. pressure. He mentioned alliances like BRICS and D8 as areas Iran seeks to expand. Additionally, Hemmati underscored the importance of fostering closer economic ties with neighboring countries to enhance regional stability.
