Tehran, IRNA – The secretary-general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought Ali Akbar Velayati expressed condolences over the demise of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a leading figure of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his condolence message, Velayati wrote that Geelani passed away after a life of endeavors and 11 years of house arrest.

Velayati sympathized with Geelani’s bereaved family and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Geelani, who had given up political activities last year, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92.
