Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Monday called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to condemn terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.
Speaking during a phone conversation with OIC Secretary-General Yousef Al-Othaimeen, the foreign minister said that such inhumane acts are aimed at sowing the seeds of discord in the country.
Amirabdollahian said that radical extremist groups are one of the main problems of this region.
Referring to recent terrorist attacks by the Daesh group against two mosques in Kunduz and Kandahar, the foreign minister said that Iran supports a more active role of the OIC in Afghanistan.
He also voiced Tehran’s satisfaction with the assistance provided by the Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in facilitating the reopening of Iran’s mission to the Organization in Jeddah.
The OIC secretary-general, for his part, provided a brief report on the measures taken by the Organization about the Afghanistan issue.
Underlining the need for forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan, as well as observing human rights and the rights of women in the country, Al-Othaimeen noted that Afghanistan should not turn into a safe haven for terrorist groups.
He noted that the OIC does not discriminate between different sects of Islam and said that all Muslim people are entitled to have the same citizenship rights.
He strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, noting that launching terrorist attacks on worshippers, whatever their religious thought, is not acceptable.
Al-Othaimeen also expressed hope that the ongoing talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia will bring positive achievements for both countries.
