Iran FM: Internet was cut off in US when Congress was occupied

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a phone talk with his Irish counterpart Simon Coveney that the Internet was cut off in America during unrests there and occupation of Congress for some time, and even president’s own pages were closed justified by national security reason.

Amirabdollahian in his Thursday evening phone talk with Coveney reviewed the latest developments in bilateral relations, the negotiations to remove the sanctions, and the ongoing unrests in Iran that he said are due to foreign intervention in Iran’s internal affairs.

“Do not forget that during the internal unrests in the United Stated that led to the occupation of the US Congress, the Internet was cut off for the people for a long time and even the personal pages of the US president at the time, too, were closed with the justification that such moves are for national security reasons,” said Amirabdollahian.

The Iranian foreign minister referred to his meeting with his Irish counterpart on the sidelines of UN General Assembly and said that as he had said before there, the negotiations to remove the sanctions are still proceeding satisfactorily.

He once again strongly rejected as false news on Iranian drones’ sales to Russia to be used in war against Ukraine, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s stance on Ukraine crisis is as before that it should be resolved through diplomatic talks.

The top Iranian diplomat turning to the recent developments in Iran, said that the forensic medicine report on the cause of Mahsa Amini’s death will be published soon.

Referring to the west’s double standards regarding the women’s right and the human rights, he said, “We care intensively about the human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and now the Iranian women are serving in universities, scientific centers, academic centers, offices, and technological fields, quite effectively.”

He said that a part of the recent developments in Iran are peaceful demonstrations, which the Iranian government supports in accordance with the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as that is the right of the Iranian people, which has always been respected and observed.

“But there are some rioters who are intrigued by the foreign powers and the opponent foreign TV networks, who destroy public properties, attack the people and the police forces using weapons, and the people expect the police forces to ensure their security, and the human rights, and restore security and public trust in police forces,” added Amirabdollahian.

He said that not even a single demonstrator is arrested in peaceful demonstrations, but the arrested rioters are disturbers of public security and some people, too, have acted sentimentally, who have been freed, but those who have used war weapons, or are members of terrorist groups will be put to trial at courts of justice.

Amirabdollahian emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran will beyond doubt continue its encounter against the terrorist and the acts of the terrorist groups plots decisively.

The foreign minister of Ireland, too, in the phone talk welcomed the achieved progress in the nuclear talks with world powers, and said that reaching an agreement will be to the benefit of all sides, and also the other countries.

Simon Coveney expressed hope that keeping in mind the changing world situation, including the Ukraine war, and the internal developments in Iran, will not make more complicated the talks with Washington.

On social unrests in Iran, too, he said, “Keeping in mind the peaceful demands of the Iranian nation, which are also emphasized by your good self too, this is of great importance.”

The two sides in the phone talk also reviewed the different dimensions of Iran-Ireland bilateral relations.
