Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has underscored that he pursues finalization of a roadmap to enhance long-term cooperation between New Delhi and Tehran.
Upon his arrival in New Delhi, Amirabdollahian told reporters on Wednesday morning that India-Iran ties are at a very good level.
The exchange of delegations especially in the new administration in Tehran has increased and all-out relationship, including cultural cooperation, has been developed, the top diplomat noted.
In line with schedules, the Iranian foreign minister will meet with the Indian prime minister and national security advisor and will hold detailed talks with his Indian counterpart during his stay in India.
The FM said that he will raise the issue of a roadmap to consolidate long-term collaborations between India and Iran, which was discussed with his Indian counterpart in Tehran.
As to the recent sacrilege of the Holy Prophet of Islam by one of the Indian politicians, Amirabdollahian stated that his trip to India is made in a situation in which a member of a party insulted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in an arbitrary act, while the government of India categorically rules out the disrespect.
India has constantly followed up peaceful coexistence and tried to live in peace and tranquility, the Iranian FM said, noting that Muslims cannot tolerate the sacrilege of the Prophet of Islam at all.
Muslims expect Indian officials to continue resorting to peaceful coexistence among all religions and sects, as it was experienced throughout the history of the country, he stipulated, adding that he expects Indian authorities to repeat such a stance in upcoming talks.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Indian ambassador in Tehran to protest the desecration of Islam’s Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in a TV debate.
Gaddam Dharmendra, the Indian envoy, expressed regret, saying that any sacrilege against the Prophet of Islam is not acceptable at all.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s spokesperson Nupur Sharma made derogatory comments about the Prophet of Islam, which led to widespread condemnation in the country and also triggered violent clashes in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Friday.
The BJP on Sunday suspended Sharma from the party while distancing itself from her offensive remarks.
