Iran Foreign Ministry reacts to UNSC’s unofficial meeting

Tehran, IRNA – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement to show proper reaction to a recent unofficial meeting of the United Nations Security Council upon the request of the United States and Albania.

The statement comes as follows:

The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the Wednesday meeting of the UNSC as the blatant misuse of international mechanisms by the US for its illegal objectives in and meddling in the internal affairs of independent states.

In the meeting, which was not welcomed by member states, ambassadors from the US and Albania were the only high-ranking officials present. Nonetheless, the US did not allow opponent member states to make speeches.

The act proved that the US administration is pursuing media dictatorship against independent countries even at the UN.

The meeting showed that the US misuses international mechanisms, such as the UNSC, to put political pressure on independent states, which distorts multilateralism and international cooperation.

While the US has a long history of violation of human rights, Washington has always tried to use human rights as a tool to pursue its political agenda.

The Islamic Republic sees the US’s measure as interference in the internal affairs of independent countries, which violates the UN Charter.

The Iranian government is committed to cultural and civilizational values, implementing human rights in line with international laws, and recognizing the right to peaceful gatherings.

The Islamic Republic condemns foreign intervention and ill-wished media campaigns, which triggers violence and riot.
