Iran interior minister visits quake-hit areas

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Minister of Interior Ahmad Vahidi on Saturday visited quake-stricken areas in southern country following two strong earthquake early in the morning.

Vahidi called for acceleration in aiding the quake-hit people and ordered the dispatch of two big 150-people tents equipped with coolers by the IRGC Navy for the accommodation of the displaced people.

The minister told IRNA correspondent that the injured people have been sent to hospital and the government is providing prefab housing units for the quake-hit people as tents may not be suitable due to the hot weather.

The governor-general of Hormuzgan Province said on Saturday that in the two 6.1- and 6.3-magnitude earthquakes in the village of Sayeh Khosh of Bandar Khamir in southern Iran, five people were killed and 19 more were injured.
