Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, has characterized the recent protests in Turkey, following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, as an internal matter that Turkish authorities are capable of managing effectively. The statement was made during a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, as reported by the Iranian Foreign Ministry. This dialogue comes amidst ongoing unrest in Turkey, where citizens are protesting Imamoglu’s imprisonment on corruption charges.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi reiterated Iran’s stance that the situation in Turkey should be resolved internally. He expressed confidence in Turkey’s ability to handle the developments in a manner that serves the interests of its nation. The discussion between the two diplomats also touched on broader regional issues, including rising tensions in West Asia due to renewed Israeli military actions in Gaza and Lebanon, violations of ceasefire agreements, and U.S. airstrikes in Yemen.

riticized the Israeli regime’s military actions and called for immediate intervention by the international community, particularly Islamic nations, to halt what he described as the occupying regime’s transgressions. He also condemned U.S. military actions in Yemen and highlighted the necessity for regional cooperation to prevent further aggression and instability.
Fidan, on his part, expressed concern over the collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza during a meeting of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee in Cairo. He emphasized the need for Islamic countries to enhance their efforts in addressing the plight of the Palestinian people. Furthermore, Fidan conveyed Turkey’s willingness to contribute to diplomatic solutions for both regional and international challenges.
The conversation between Araqchi and Fidan also included an exchange of pleasantries, with Fidan extending congratulations to Araqchi on the occasion of Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
