Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Tuesday that the Iranian government will not give up the rights of the nation for the sake of nuclear negotiations to be concluded soon.
Speaking during his weekly press conference, Rabiei said that the government is in no rush to conclude the nuclear negotiations within the few weeks that the incumbent government is still in office.
“If our demands are not met, the continuation of negotiations will be left to the next government,” the spokesman said.
Noting that Iran has made its viewpoints clear to the other parties, Rabiei said that Iran is now waiting for other participants and the United States to make their decisions so as to be able to hold the next round of talks.
Asked whether Iran has any plan to extend an agreement with the IAEA as the agreement has already expired and the Vienna talks have not been concluded, the spokesman said that the agreement was once extended last month as the nuclear talks were promising.
He said that the country is considering the possibility of extending the agreement for a second time.
Rabiei made it clear that in case the agreement is not extended, Iran’s relationship with the agency will be based on the safeguards and Iran will not accept any further commitments.
He, however, noted that a possible extension of the agreement would not translate into erosive negotiations.
“We have concluded that the negotiations have lasted sufficiently and we expect the American side to make a final decision about returning to its obligations and implementing international regulations.”
