Tehran, IRNA – The participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the second regional summit on Iraq in the Jordanian capital of Amman has been highlighted by international media outlets in respect of the role of Tehran in regional peace and stability.
The first summit was held in August 2021 in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad participated by France, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkiye and Iran in addition to several regional and international organizations.
Iran’s foreign minister took part in the 2021 summit, while presidents of France Egypt as well as prime minister of Kuwait, emir of Qatar, deputy prime minister of the UAE and Jordan’s king participated in the event.
The presence of the Islamic Republic as an important and influential player of the region has always been of great significance in the eyes of other participants.
Some international media outlets paid heed to the issue of possible talks between Saudi and Iranian officials on the sidelines of the second regional summit on Iraq.
There has not been any confirmed program for such a meeting between the two sides so far.
The fact that the Islamic Republic has been invited officially to attend the summit proves that the attempts made by certain Western states to isolate Iran at regional and international levels doomed to failure and Tehran is inevitably an important regional player; so, its presence can play a key role in regional and global arenas.
The Islamic Republic has time and again underlined the need for inviting regional players to have a greater contribution to regional affairs. To this end, the Iranian foreign minister criticized organizers of the first summit over refusing to invite his Syrian counterpart.
It is noteworthy that the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi attaches importance to development of ties with neighboring states and other regional countries; therefore, the participation of the Iranian representatives in the regional conference shows Tehran’s endeavor to play a positive role in consolidating peace and stability in the region.
Iran is of the opinion that the key of resolving most of the regional issues is in the hands of regional players, and that ultra-regional states should not be seen as the savior of the West Asia region.
Fuad Hussein, Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced on Wednesday that a second regional summit on Iraq will be held in Amman on December 20 with the participation of Turkey and Iran.
