Iran President’s visit to Uzbekistan follows regional convergence

Tehran, IRNA – The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry highlighted the visit of President Ebrahim Raisi to Uzbekistan and described it as an important and lasting development in strengthening policy on convergence in the region.

Nasser Kanaani made the remarks on his Twitter page.

Visit of President Raisi to Samarkand at the invitation of his Uzbek counterpart for holding an official bilateral meeting, attending the 2022 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and signing document on commitments on Iran’s permanent membership in the SCO is another lasting development which is after strengthening policy on neighborliness and multilateralism.

Although the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to the process of talks on removal of the sanctions, it acts dynamically and vigilantly to achieve its strategic goals and enhance foreign relations; and the country does not wait for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPO) and the US return to the deal, Kanaani wrote.

President Raisi at the head of a delegation departed for Samarkand on Wednesday to take part in the SCO Summit slated for September 15-16 in Uzbekistan.
