Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has underscored that the Islamic Republic sees expansion of relationships with the Central Asian countries as one of its first priorities.
Raisi made the remarks in the second day of his stay in Uzbekistan amid his meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on Thursday.
Describing the development of relations with the Central Asian states as one of the most important priorities of his administration’s foreign policy, the Iranian president stated that there are numerous commonalities among people residing in this region in terms of culture and civilization.
He further underlined the need for pursuing expansion of ties with neighboring states of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in particular Tajikistan, noting that there are many capacities for economic and trade collaborations between Dushanbe and Tehran.
Raisi expressed satisfaction with the upgrade of mutual ties, particularly in economic and trade arenas, saying that the Islamic Republic is determined to continue this pace.
The Tajik and Iranian presidents also held talks on regional issues such as security subjects, as well as the woe of people living in Afghanistan.
The Iranian chief executive traveled to Samarkand on Wednesday (September 14) at the invitation of his Uzbek counterpart to participate in the 22nd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
