Iran pursuing legitimate rights in Vienna talks

Tehran, IRNA – There are some speculations on the reason of a trip by Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi to Iran to discuss the Vienna talks, while the Islamic Republic has utilized all means to declare its demands to the West explicitly.

The Omani FM paid a visit to Tehran in order to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian and President Ebrahim Raisi.

The fact that the visit was unprecedented and Albusaidi conveyed Omani king’s message to President Raisi prompted certain media outlets and analysts to interpret the trip as a mission to exchange messages between the Iranian and Omani sides regarding talks in Vienna, Austria, to revive the 2015 nuclear deal and remove anti-Iran sanctions.

Although, the details of Omani king’s letter and the Iranian-Omani discussions are not yet clear, such analyses are not confirmed; however, the Islamic Republic has shown that the Iranian authorities have used the opportunity to declare their stance on lifting sanctions.

Tweets and comments during and after the Omani FM’s visit to Tehran indicate that delegations involved in the Vienna talks consider the Iranian negotiating team as completely determined to pursue legal and rightful demands of the Islamic Republic.

Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani is of the opinion that representatives from the Islamic Republic, the European Union and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) are very close to a final agreement following weeks of intensive negotiations.

The deputy foreign minister also noted that nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed.

Tehran does not seek negotiation for negotiation in a bid to create fruitless hope among the Iranians or diplomatic posture in overseas. Moreover, the Iranian delegation emphasized that they do not need verbal guarantees, because the West especially the US have shown that they do not comply with their commitments.

Iran calls for removal of sanctions, assurances for preventing from extravagant demands by the West as well as verification of implementing promises.

The US is not directly participate in the Vienna talks, but other sides involved in the negotiations as well as certain regional states convey Iranians’ clear demands to the White House.

If the West is willing to reach consensus with Iran, they are expected to accept Iranians’ legitimate demands, because the Western powers are the ones who violated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in May 2018; so, they should show that they would abide by a future potential agreement.
