Iran, Syria delegations meet on sidelines of Astana meeting

Tehran, IRNA – The Iranian delegation participating in the Astana meeting held talks with the Syrian delegation on Wednesday morning, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest political and security developments in Syria. They also condemned the continued occupation of Syrian soil by the US and underlined the need for pursuing the 7th Constitutional Conference of Syria.

They also called for the removal of inhumane sanctions on Syria and slammed the Zionist regime’s attacks against Syria’s infrastructure.

On the sidelines of the Astana meeting, Lebanon’s ambassador whose country holds an observer status at the meeting, also held talks with the Iranian delegation.

In this meeting, the two sides reviewed the Astana Peace Process and outlined its role in reducing battle zones, creating a political process, forming a constitutional committee and establishing a committee to pursue the issue of the missing.

They also underlined the Astana talks as the only successful mechanism for paving the way for political process in Syria.
