Iranian athlete’s name among 2017 Paralympics best male nominees
Tehran, Aug 28, Iranian athlete Siamand Rahman was among those who were announced by the International Paralympics Committee (IPC) as best male nominees.
The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has released names of those athletes and made the shortlist in the Best Male category for the 2017 Paralympics Sport Awards, IPC reported.
'The International Paralympics Committee (IPC) has announced the athletes who partnered by Allianz, recognizing the achievements from the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games.'
'The awards will be presented in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 7 September during the IPC General Assembly in the following categories: Best Male, Best Female, Best Team, Best Male Debut and Best Female Debut.'
According to IPC the shortlist for the Best Male category is as follows:
Ihar Boki (Belarus)
Left Rio 2016 as the most decorated paralympian following a glittering performance which included six golds and one bronze. At his second paralympics, the 23-year-old also set two new world records in the men's 100m butterfly S13 and 100m breaststroke SB13.
Marcel Hug (Switzerland)
At his fourth Paralympics Games, the 'Silver Bullet' finally topped the podium with wins in the men's 800m and marathon T54. By the time he ran the 800m T54 final, it was 19th attempt at winning Paralympics gold. Hug followed that up with silver in the 1,500m and 5,000m T54.
Siamand Rahman (Iran)
Did what no man had ever done before: cleared the bar at an astonishing 310kg, breaking his own world record, taking his second consecutive Paralympics title and proving once again he is the world's strongest Paralympian.
IPC had earlier been selected Iranian power lifter Siamand Rahman as the best athlete in September, 2016.
According to IPC, Rahman became the best athlete of September, 2016 by having 65% of the votes.
Rahman won gold medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, 2016, Summer Paralympics in Rio and the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou.
