Iranian envoy: Sanctions must be lifted in action

London, IRNA- Iran’s Ambassador to London Mohsen Baharvand on Wednesday said that Iran does not trust the US, and the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action aka JCPOA requires the practical and verifiable lifting of the imposed sanctions.

The Islamic Republic is taking a negotiating approach to resolving its differences with other states, Baharvand said in an interview.

As to the JCPOA, Iran has issues that should be resolved with other parties, he further noted.

We need to ensure that if someone like Trump took power in the United States again, he would not destroy the outcome of the negotiations,” he stated.

Iran is not going to talk about the region and other issues that have nothing to do with the JCPOA and the nuclear talks, he added.

“We must also see the practical action of other JCPOA participants in lifting the sanctions,” he said, adding that “because we cannot be a member of the agreement and accept its obligations but at the same time be deprived of its benefits. There must be a balance between the obligations and the rights of JCPOA.”

Baharvand underlined that the demands of Iran in the JCPOA negotiations, particularly regarding its future and the guarantee of the American side, are quite reasonable.

He further noted that trust in the US has been lost and that they must remedy the situation.

The experience shows that the diplomacy of the US is not innovative at all, he pointed out.

They just want to resolve all the problems with forced or coercion, he further noted.

The US sees the world like “a Hollywood movie”, Baharvand said.

The situation of women in Iran and Afghanistan is not comparable, he said, noting that in Iran women are active in the cabinet at the level of the vice-president as well as in the universities.

With regard to the Taliban, he said that “being a government is quite different from being a group.”

He went on to say that “they shouldn’t make a safe haven for terrorism.”
