Iranian fishermen held captive in Somalia freed after 8 years

Tehran, IRNA – Fourteen Iranian fishermen who had been held captive by al-Shabab terrorist group in Somalia were freed.

The fishermen were released following negotiations and measures by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

All of them are from the southern port city of Chabahar.

They were taken captive by al-Shabab terrorists in international waters near Somalia eight years ago.

The fishermen were set to land in Tehran on a flight from Mogadishu on Saturday night.
