Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian who is in New York to take part in the UNGA had meetings with his counterparts from Turkey and Namibia.
Amirabdollahian met on Wednesday with Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavusoglu on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The two sides discussed bilateral and regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan and Syria.
They agreed to hold a meeting on foreign ministers level to set the agenda for another leaders level meeting in the framework of Iran-Turkey Joint Commission.
The two also agreed to hold the trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan Republic, Iran and Turkey in Tehran.
Amirabdollahian said that President Ebrahim Raisi has appointed his first vice president as the chair of the commission which signified a serious improvement.
He also submitted Raisi’s invitation for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the foreign minister.
Turkish Foreign Minister said that his country would follow suit regarding the appointment in joint commission and criticized unilateral, illegal sanctions imposed on Iran and urged lifting them.
Amirabdollahian also had a meeting with Namibian Foreign Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah during which he underscored the importance relations with Africa for the new administration in Iran, highlighting Iran’s support of Namibia’s fight for independence.
The two discussed the problems occurred in the good trade relationship between Iran and Namibia and the how to solve them. Amirabdollahian invited Namibian Foreign Minister to pay a visit to Iran.
Nandi-Ndaitwah pointed out that Iran was among the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Namibia, saying that her country was ready to expand ties with Iran on trade, mining, agriculture, health and medicine.
She also underlined that Namibia has tried to keep ties with Iran despite the obstacles caused by the US sanctions.
Amirabdollahian who was confirmed to the position last month also received messages of congratulation on appointment as foreign minister from counterparts in Norway, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
Kenya’s Foreign Minister Raychelle Omamo, Norway’s Foreign Minister Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide and Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister Frederick Musiiwa Makamure Shava congratulated Amirabdollahian in separate messages and expressed readiness to expand ties with Iran.
